This recording belongs to the Italian Columbia's famous opera edition which was made between 1927 and 1934 in Milan, conducted by Lorenzo Molajoli, who was apparently also a director of this company. The recordings were sold in many countries from Germany, England, France to the United States, where there were available under the American Columbia label.

Several operas seemed not to be attractive enough to justify a complete recording. For the Italian Columbia Ernani, Don Pasquale, La Favorita and L'elisir d'amore fell into this category. In these cases, Columbia published special abrigded recordings with 5 or 6 discs, also conducted by Molajoli. In several situations, for example for Ernani or Elisir, they were the only ones available.
