These are powerful interpretations in keeping with the serious and titanic temperament of Annie Fischer. They are in the class of Richter’s d minor, but possibly even grander due to the dynamic collaboration of Kurtz. There is not a single phrase or cadence that is not purposeful in a musico-dramatic sense and the sense of live music making is overwhelming despite the fact that these are studio recordings. While the catalogue is overflowing with competition (including multiple intégrales), these are readings that are hewn from altogether different stone and remain incomparable.
