Technical Note & Comment: Analogue chain: Thorens TD 125 Mk II turntable with SME 3012 tone-arm supporting Ortofon ‘Concorde’ moving-magnet cartridge feeding QUAD33 Control Unit as phono-amplifier & equaliser into QUAD44 pre-amplifier Digital chain: QUADD44 to Terratec a-d/d-a converter to PC using SONY ‘Sound Forge’ & ‘CD Architect’ software for restoration & CD-R production.

The condition of the original LPs varied from fair to very poor and required maximum digital processing to achieve an acceptable sound, though there are audible digital artefacts as a result. CD1 track 1 had significant groove-wall damage which caused the stylus to skip – nothing could be done to restore this fault.
