from CRQ 443 Bruno Walter conducts Mahler 1 Live New York 24 01 1954, released January 12, 2021
This performance was given in concert one day before Walter's famous studio recording for Columba Records Inc, of Mahler's First Symphony with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
It's publication history is unusual. It first appeared in the Italian part-work series of LPs entitled I Grandi Concerti, credited to Dmitri Mitropoulos and dated 1955. It subsequently was released on CD in 2000 by the Italian Urania CD label, coupled with Richard Strauss's Till Eulenspiegel from Los Angeles.
Only with the publication oft he Detailed discography of Walter's recordings by Erik Ryding and Rebecca Pechefsky, last updated 2010, was the correct provenance of this rare recording revealed.
