about

Track 7: Rimsky-Korsakov: Russian Easter Festival Overture
New Philharmonia Orchestra / 10 09 1966
Leopold Stokowski, conductor

lyrics

Recorded in the Royal Albert Hall
Produced by Edward Johnson
Source material courtesy of Theo van der Burg and Edward Johnson
Because of the age of some of the source material, there are present slight acoustic deficiencies in certain of these recordings. However their musical significance is felt to far outweigh such drawbacks.

In his correspondence with William Glock, the BBC’s Proms Controller, Stokowski particularly asked to conduct Slavic music “because I feel it so intensely.” This collection of Russian works reflects that intensity, beginning with the Proms and UK Premiere of his own colourful orchestration of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” and including other dazzling performances that brought immense delight to the Royal Albert Hall’s Prommers.
