Note: Made in the twilight of the 78rpm era, these recordings were originally produced to be self-standing and were not designed to be listened to in relation to each other. Therefore the presentation of them as a set is problematic. For instance they might be presented by year of composition, by composer in alphabetical order, and so forth. In this instance the decision was made to present them in order of recording date, in that this at least presents a coherent picture of the developing relationship between conductor, orchestra and recording team..
