    BEECHAM IN BUENOS AIRES

During the summer and autumn of 1958 Sir Thomas Beecham conducted a series of five opera productions at the esteemed Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Fortunately recordings have survived of all of these productions. Each of the operas performed represented a key work in Beecham’s operatic repertoire, and in several instances these recordings represent the only accounts to exist of him conducting particular works complete (such as Fidelio, Samson et Dalila and Otello). With excellent international casts, these recordings present an unique portrait of Sir Thomas ‘live’ in the opera house.
